Assala Trio

Assala brings together three leading figures of Mediterranean jazz: Israeli pianist Omri Mor, Algerian drummer Karim Ziad, and Moroccan Gnawa master Mehdi Nassouli. Together, they weave a vibrant dialogue between contemporary jazz, Arab-Andalusian music, and Gnawa tradition.

A virtuoso discovered by Avishai Cohen, Omri Mor displays remarkable freedom at the piano, enriched by classical and Middle Eastern influences. Karim Ziad, a key figure in both the jazz and North African music scenes, brings a unique rhythmic energy, while Mehdi Nassouli, singer and guembri player, echoes the full spiritual force of Gnawa heritage.

Their project Assala (“authenticity” in Arabic) is an invitation on a journey where improvisation, trance, poetry, and virtuosity converge. A luminous and captivating music without borders, brought to life by three exceptional artists.
